Rock Son Games ("we," "us," or "our") developed Echoes ("the Game"), a virtual reality mystery exploration game for Meta Quest devices. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our Game. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.
By downloading, installing, or using Echoes, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account and Authentication Data
When you use certain features of the Game (such as the Community Story Hub), we may collect:
Meta User ID — A unique identifier associated with your Meta account, used for authentication via Firebase Authentication
Display Name — Your chosen username, displayed alongside community-created stories
1.2 User-Generated Content
When you create and share stories through the Community Story Hub, we collect:
Story Content — The text content of stories you create, including titles, descriptions, and story fragments
Story Metadata — Timestamps of creation and modification, and author attribution
1.3 Game Progress and Preferences
We store the following data locally on your device:
Save Data — Your current story progress, completed stories, and trip progress
Settings and Preferences — Audio volume levels, accessibility mode preferences, and other gameplay settings
Story Cache — AI-generated stories cached locally for offline play
1.4 AI Story Generation Data
When the Game generates AI-powered stories, we send:
Text Prompts — Creative writing prompts (containing no personal user data) to the Together AI API to generate story content
No personal information, usernames, or identifying data is included in these prompts
1.5 Device and Technical Data
The Game may process the following technical data during gameplay:
Head Tracking Position — Used in real-time for gameplay mechanics (echolocation pulse origin); this data is processed on-device and is not stored or transmitted
Controller Input — Button presses and joystick input used for gameplay interaction; processed on-device only and not stored or transmitted
Device Identifiers — Standard device information that may be collected by the Meta Quest platform as part of normal operation
1.6 Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not access your device camera or passthrough video
We do not record or store microphone audio
We do not collect hand tracking or body tracking data
We do not collect location or GPS data
We do not collect financial or payment information
We do not collect biometric data
We do not collect contact lists or address book data
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
To Provide the Game Experience — Processing gameplay inputs, saving your progress, and maintaining your preferences so you can continue where you left off
To Generate Story Content — Sending creative prompts to the Together AI API to generate unique stories for your gameplay experience
To Enable Community Features — Allowing you to create, share, browse, and play community-created stories through our Community Story Hub (powered by Google Firebase)
To Improve the Game — Understanding general usage patterns to fix bugs, improve performance, and enhance gameplay features
To Provide Accessibility Features — Storing and applying your accessibility preferences (such as text-to-speech settings and accessible mode) to ensure the Game is usable for all players
3. How We Store Your Information
3.1 Local Storage
Game progress, settings, preferences, and cached AI-generated stories are stored locally on your Meta Quest device. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to external servers unless you choose to use Community Story Hub features.
3.2 Cloud Storage
Community Story Hub data (user-created stories, display names, and story metadata) is stored on Google Firebase servers (Firestore and Firebase Authentication). Firebase data is stored in accordance with Google's security practices and data protection standards.
3.3 Third-Party Processing
AI story generation prompts are processed by Together AI's servers. Together AI processes these prompts solely to generate story content and does not receive any personal user data. Please refer to Together AI's privacy policy for information about their data handling practices.
4. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
Google Firebase — Account authentication data and community story content are processed and stored by Google Firebase to enable the Community Story Hub. Google's privacy practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Together AI — Non-personal creative writing prompts are sent to Together AI solely for the purpose of generating story content. Together AI does not receive any personal user data from our Game.
Meta Platform — Standard platform data may be collected by Meta as part of the Meta Quest operating system. This is governed by Meta's own Supplemental Meta Platforms Technologies Privacy Policy.
Legal Requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties not listed above.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data only for as long as necessary to provide the Game experience:
Local Save Data — Retained on your device until you uninstall the Game or manually clear the data
Community Stories — Retained on Firebase servers as long as the Community Story Hub feature is operational, or until you request deletion
Account Data — Retained as long as you maintain your account and use the Community Story Hub, or until you request deletion
AI Story Prompts — Processed in real-time by Together AI and not retained by us after story generation is complete
6. Your Rights and Data Deletion
All users, regardless of your region or location, have the following rights:
6.1 Right to Access
You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
6.2 Right to Correction
You may request that we correct any inaccurate personal data we hold about you.
6.3 Right to Deletion
You may request that we delete all personal data we have collected or stored about you. We will fulfill deletion requests free of charge. To request deletion of your data:
Local Data: Uninstall the Game from your Meta Quest device, which will remove all locally stored data including save files, preferences, and cached stories.
Community Story Hub Data: To request deletion of your community stories, account data, and any associated information stored on our servers, please contact us at the email address provided in Section 9 below. We will process your request within 30 days.
There is no fee associated with any data deletion request.
6.4 Right to Opt Out
You may choose not to use the Community Story Hub feature, in which case no data will be transmitted to or stored on external servers beyond your local device.
7. Children's Privacy
Echoes is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us using the information in Section 9.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) for all server communications
Firebase security rules restricting data access
Local data stored within the application's sandboxed storage on your device
No storage of sensitive financial, biometric, or health data
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
